MEDISEP Cashless Treatment — Quick Guide for Malappuram

Before visiting a hospital, confirm that it is MEDISEP empanelled and that your procedure is cashless-eligible.
Use the official portal or hospital helpdesk to verify: hospital code, specialty availability, pre-authorization timelines, and bed category.

How to Use Cashless at a Network Hospital

  1. Carry documents: MEDISEP card/ID, Aadhaar, state employee/pensioner ID, recent prescriptions, and basic lab reports.
  2. Registration: Go to the Insurance/TPA desk at the hospital and submit your MEDISEP details.
  3. Pre-authorization: Hospital sends the treatment plan and estimated cost to the insurer/TPA for approval.
  4. Approval SMS/Note: On approval, you’ll get an authorization number and the hospital can proceed cashless (as per package).
  5. Discharge & billing: Final bill is settled directly between hospital and insurer for approved items; non-payables (if any) are paid by the patient.

What to Confirm with the Hospital

  • Specialties covered: Whether your required specialty (cardiology, orthopaedics, oncology, etc.) is available under MEDISEP.
  • Package vs non-package: If your procedure is a package (fixed rate) or non-package (itemised) under MEDISEP.
  • Room entitlement: Bed category included in the package and any upgrade charges if you opt for a higher category.
  • Exclusions & co-pay: Consumables, disposables, and items not covered. Clarify non-payables before admission.
  • Emergency protocol: If it’s an emergency, ask for admit first, pre-auth next process as per policy.

Documents Needed (Cashless & Reimbursement)

  • MEDISEP card/beneficiary ID, Aadhaar, employee/pensioner ID
  • Doctor’s prescription and investigation reports
  • Discharge summary, itemised bills, payment receipts (only for reimbursement), cancelled cheque/bank proof (for reimbursement)

Common Reasons for Claim Delay/Denial

  • Incomplete pre-auth (missing clinical notes or estimates)
  • Procedure not covered or not indicated as per policy
  • Consumables/non-payables billed as payable items
  • Late submission of documents in reimbursement claims
  • Name/ID mismatch between hospital records and MEDISEP ID

Cashless vs Reimbursement — Quick Comparison

Point Cashless (Network Hospital) Reimbursement (If Cashless Not Used)
Approval Pre-authorization by TPA/insurer Claim submitted after discharge
Payment Insurer pays hospital for approved items You pay first, insurer reimburses eligible amount
Timeline Faster at empanelled hospitals Depends on document quality & submission time
Out-of-pocket Only non-payables/co-pay (if any) Initial full payment + later settlement

Checklist Before Admission

  • Confirm hospital is empanelled under MEDISEP for your specialty.
  • Ask the TPA desk about package coverage, room entitlement, and non-payables.
  • Keep all documents (ID, reports, prescriptions) ready.
  • Note the authorization number and keep SMS/emails for record.
  • Collect discharge summary and copies of bills at discharge.

MEDISEP FAQs (Malappuram)

How can I confirm if a Malappuram hospital is in the MEDISEP network?

Use the official MEDISEP hospital search or call the hospital’s insurance/TPA desk and ask for their MEDISEP empanelment code and specialties covered.

What if the hospital refuses cashless?

Ask for the reason in writing. If it’s a pre-auth issue, request the hospital to re-submit documents. Otherwise, you may proceed with reimbursement as per policy.

Are all procedures covered under MEDISEP packages?

No. Many common procedures are package-based, but some may be non-package or require special approval. Confirm coverage and non-payables before admission.

Is pre-authorization required in an emergency?

Hospitals usually admit first and send pre-auth immediately after stabilization. Keep beneficiary ID and Aadhaar handy to speed up processing.

Grievance & Support

  • Keep the pre-auth ID/authorization number and MRD number for any follow-up.
  • Escalate unresolved issues with hospital TPA desk; then raise a formal grievance with policy details and documents.
